Our Teaching Philosophy
Students can achieve more.
At ECLA, we hold the belief that each student is a unique individual, possessing their own set of strengths, passions, interests, and abilities. Our goal is to uncover your child’s academic strengths and personal interests. ECLA is committed to collaborating with a team of experts to ensure that your child experiences innovative learning environments, guided by teachers who tailor the curriculum to suit individual needs, interests, and aspirations.
We move beyond the realms of traditional subjects such as mathematics and language arts. While these foundational pillars remain vital, we’ve carefully designed an all-encompassing syllabus that embraces personalized and expansive learning journeys. Our goal is to extend beyond the mere transmission of knowledge and guide students on a transformative path to unlock their potential.
Living by the Golden Rule at ECLA
We uphold the timeless adage of treating others as we wish to be treated—often referred to as the Golden Rule. This principle is the bedrock of our school’s culture and interactions. We instill in our students the importance of empathy, understanding, and kindness towards one another, creating a harmonious and respectful environment.
Encouraging our students to practice the Golden Rule cultivates a strong sense of community and nurtures their social and emotional growth. They learn the significance of compassion, consideration, and the positive impact these qualities have on relationships. By internalizing this fundamental principle, our students develop essential life skills that extend far beyond the walls of our school.
Paced Learning & Flexible Achievement
Learning is tailored to our students’ interests and paced to facilitate the realization of their full potential. Students may progress through curriculum objectives swiftly when they excel, or they may benefit from additional practice to achieve their objectives. Through adaptable groupings based on achievement, we are confident that our students will thrive in an environment that nurtures their personal interests and potential.
Students benefit from a collective team approach rather than a single-teacher model. The school community operates as a united team, providing your child with access to a diverse range of teachers, community leaders, various groups, organizations, and volunteers. They work collaboratively to support and guide your child in alignment with their unique interests and pace. At ECLA, students have the opportunity to progress at their individual pace, participating in groupings tailored to their achievement levels by utilizing the concept of the zone of proximal development (ZPD). This educational approach focuses on the space between a learner’s independent capabilities and what they can achieve with appropriate guidance from our teachers or collaboration with their peers.
Systemic & Continuous Feedback
We understand that your child’s educational journey is a collaborative effort, and we firmly believe that continuous, formative feedback is pivotal to their progress and success. Recognizing the invaluable role parents play in their child’s education, we are committed to ensuring you remain well-informed and engaged throughout this journey.
With this understanding, we are thrilled to introduce our all-encompassing feedback approach, meticulously crafted to provide you with real-time insights into your child’s accomplishments and learning objectives. To achieve this, we’ve established a dedicated Parent Portal, housing your child’s personalized dashboard. This portal offers immediate access to updates and valuable insights, empowering you to actively participate and stay connected in your child’s educational journey.
Parental Engagement: We are committed to keeping you informed about your child’s journey every step of the way. You will receive regular updates on their progress, ensuring your active engagement in their educational experience. In line with this commitment, three student-led parent-teacher learning celebration meetings will be held throughout the year in November, February, and May. These sessions involve parents, students, and teachers, allowing for a comprehensive discussion about your child’s progress and educational journey, fostering a cooperative approach to education.
Progress Updates: Our assessment approach guarantees transparency regarding your child’s performance. Throughout the year, there will be three summative report cards, keeping you well-informed about their progress. Moreover, we’ve established an ongoing, personalized parent portal that is updated weekly, ensuring you maintain a comprehensive understanding of your child’s growth.
Promoting Growth: Our continuous assessments extend beyond performance measurement; they offer valuable insights into how your child can enrich their learning experience. We emphasize providing constructive feedback to support their ongoing improvement.
Clear Expectations and Cohesive Learning Experiences: Our assessment philosophy is grounded in well-defined content, skill, and behaviour rubrics, ensuring clarity regarding learning expectations, pace of learning, anticipated outcomes, and fostering a cohesive educational experience.
Cultivating Unique Talents: Through close collaboration with your child, we recognize their distinct talents, strengths, and interests. Employing adaptable groupings and personalized assistance, our goal is to foster and honor their individuality, empowering them to excel both academically and personally.
