Teachers

Wendy Sinclair

LEARNING LEAD

New Brunswick native, Wendy Sinclair, holds a BA and an MEd from the University of New Brunswick. With 32 years of experience in education, she has served as an Elementary School Teacher, Vice Principal, and Learning Specialist at the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development. Wendy has developed expertise in literacy and math learning, assessment, and personalization. Her background and experience will enrich students’ education at ECLA by providing them with tailored support in their learning journeys and helping to foster a deep understanding of core subjects. Building upon the development of the whole child, Wendy has received special training in Mindfulness, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, and Prosci Change Management, equipping her with the tools to cultivate a positive culture, and inspire a synergetic learning environment. Additionally, her passion for sports and role as a coach with the Fredericton Aquanaut Swim Team highlight her commitment to fostering teamwork, discipline, and personal growth among ECLA students.

Devin Lister

Teacher

Devin is an accomplished educator with a diverse background in early childhood and elementary education. After obtaining her Bachelor of Education degree from St. Thomas University, she launched her career in early childhood education, accumulating over a decade of experience. While at Go-Go Group Inc, Devin developed a profound passion for working with children. More recently, she transitioned into the public education system as an elementary teacher, where she has actively implemented flexible groupings in her classroom. Through firsthand experience, she has witnessed the positive impact of these adaptable teaching strategies in unlocking each child’s full potential. Devin’s unwavering commitment to personalized education and her strong advocacy for experiential learning perfectly align with her role at East Coast Leadership Academy.

Krista Touesnard

Teacher

In a teaching career that spans over two decades, Krista is a colourful and forward thinking educator who looks beyond textbooks for those valuable teaching moments. Holding a Masters in Education in Curriculum and Instruction, Krista has taught with the ASD-W School Board as a music specialist, and is an instructor with the Faculty of Early Childhood Education at UNB. Having been named Music Educator of the Year by Music New Brunswick, her achievements are inspired by her background as a professional musician. In her youth, Krista sharpened her skills on the Maritime fiddle scene as the youngest of the Touesnard Sisters. She became a member of the NS Youth Orchestra in high school, and upon graduation became a national touring member of the Cape Breton Summertime Review. In 2019, Krista started a journey as owner/operator of the highly regarded Tipsy Muse Cafe, which provided a safe, inclusive creative space and venue, and remains part of the MRTI Agency team, representing NB talent and producing live events. ECLA students will be educated and inspired by Krista’s passionate music curriculum.

Jaclyn Killam

Teacher

ECLA’s French teacher, Jaclyn, holds a BA in Psychology and an MEd in Exceptional Learners from the University of New Brunswick as well as a BEd in Elementary Education from Queen’s University. She has two decades of teaching and leadership experience in various roles including as a French Immersion teacher, a middle-level Numeracy Lead in ASD-S, and as an itinerant K-12 Resource & Methods teacher in ASD-W. Her diverse teaching experience has allowed her to develop expertise in the areas of assessment for learning and in personalizing and tailoring her instruction to meet students’ individual needs. Jaclyn incorporates real-world experiences into her French classes, encouraging conversational French among students. She is committed to creating meaningful, student-centered, learning experiences as ECLA’s French Second Language teacher.

Melissa Gaudet

Teacher

Melissa is a dedicated educator with over a decade of experience inspiring young learners. With a background in business, including an MBA, a Bachelor of Education degree, and currently pursuing a masters in education graduate degree in leadership, she blends creativity, structure, and passion into her classroom approach. Melissa fosters meaningful learning through strong relationships, trust, and a commitment to holistic education, believing in each child’s unique potential, which is a core value at ECLA. Her classroom is a space where curiosity is welcomed, questions lead the way, and every student is encouraged to take ownership of their learning journey. Passionate about math, logic, and problem-solving, she integrates these skills into everyday learning experiences, driven by student curiosity and individual interests. At ECLA, Melissa champions innovation, joy, and student empowerment.

Will Stach

Teacher

Will hails from Alberta and holds Bachelor’s degrees in education and Natural Science, and has taught at top-ranking private schools in Calgary. His formal training with blended instruction, self-paced classrooms, and mastery-based assessment helps him to ensure students meet their full potential. Will focuses on connecting students’ interests with the curriculum, and is not afraid to create elaborate immersive experiences for students. He has also coached robotics teams to two world championship competitions. Will has worked with students in a variety of other capacities, such as teaching skating, running summer camps, after-school math enrichment classes, and high-school tutoring in Math, Physics, and Chemistry. Will brings to ECLA students a broad and personalized learning experience, from elementary to high school.

Educational Mentors

Dr. John Morrison

Dr. John Morrison brings a unique blend of expertise across private education and business. Currently, John serves as the Associate Dean of the Online Bachelor of Business Administration Program at Yorkville University, Canada’s largest private university. Previously he has taught at Trinity Western University and the University of New Brunswick in the areas of Marketing, Leadership, and International Business. Prior to his transition to academics, John spent several years in marketing and sales leadership across a variety of manufacturing industries. He has completed a BBA, MBA, and PhD focused on Organizational Psychology at the University of New Brunswick. John’s knowledge of private education together with a strong business background will be a driving force behind ECLA’s success.

Dr. Jonathan Clayton

Jonathan is a rural family physician, wilderness enthusiast, and the creator of the YouTube channel Penniac Wilderness. He is known for his innovative approach to healthcare, constantly seeking new ways to improve patient outcomes and experiences.

Beyond his medical practice, Jonathan leads expeditions into remote landscapes, guiding journeys that nurture individual development and foster a deeper connection with nature. Jonathan holds a Bachelor of Science degree from UNB and earned his medical degree from Memorial University, where he excelled as a Dean’s List student.

Additionally, Jonathan is a co-founder of a successful virtual healthcare company, leveraging technology to enhance healthcare services within his province. Through his diverse pursuits, Jonathan continues to make a positive impact in healthcare and outdoor exploration. Jonathan will be bringing his expertise in medicine and in outdoor adventures to the students of ECLA.

Bob Stutt

Bob Stutt has been a professional puppeteer for over 40 years. Specializing in puppetry for film and television, Bob has performed on shows such as Fraggle Rock, The Jim Henson Hour, Sesame Park, Under the Umbrella Tree, The Big Comfy Couch, Panda Bear Daycare and Ruffus the Dog. He has puppeteered on over 80 TV commercials for the Danish National Railway all shot in Copenhagen. In addition to puppetry, Bob has written over 300 scripts produced by CBC, CTV, PBS and Disney, and his first novel will be published in April 2025. Bob has performed his live shows throughout North America including a 5 week run at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, and he has done numerous puppetry workshops at schools, libraries and puppet festivals throughout Canada and the US. ECLA students will learn the art of puppetry and video production from this master puppeteer. Born in Ontario, Bob now lives in Fredericton with his wife, Joanne, dog, Teddy, and cat, Conan O’Brien.

Michelle Peach

Originally from the west coast of Newfoundland, Michelle relocated to Fredericton in 1997 to further her Massage Therapy Practice and pursue studies in Adult Education at the University of New Brunswick. With a background as a professionally trained registered massage therapist, educator, and advocate for healthy living, Michelle possesses extensive experience and entrepreneurial expertise.

Having owned successful businesses, including founding the Riverside Montessori Learning Centre, Michelle’s passion for teaching and lifelong learning drew her to the field of education. She became a sought-after instructor at various colleges and the University of New Brunswick, where she contributed to the Biology Department and served as the Head Instructor for the Anatomy Lab for several years. Michelle will be sharing this knowledge and understanding of the human body with ECLA students through engaging and interactive methods.

Laura Vail

Laura, a lifelong resident of Fredericton, brings over two decades of educational experience, driven by her passion for fostering joy and innovation within learning environments. She pursued her academic journey at Mount Allison University, majoring in French and English, followed by earning her BEd from Saint Thomas University and her Masters from UNB.

Laura’s educational philosophy centres on principles of belonging, honesty, and community, guiding her approach to teaching and leadership. Currently serving as Vice Principal at New Maryland Elementary School, she values the power of teamwork, collaboration, and the support of a tight-knit community. Outside of her educational pursuits, Laura leads an active lifestyle as a seasoned fitness instructor, balancing her time between her professional responsibilities and the joys of parenthood with her three energetic children. With a deep understanding of New Brunswick’s rich community fabric, Laura will be sharing her expertise with ECLA, and enriching student experiences with local knowledge.

Dr. Rhonda Stone

Dr. Rhonda Stone is a devoted veterinarian based in Fredericton, New Brunswick who exemplifies a deep commitment and profound love of animal wellness and community engagement. Beyond her clinical practice, she places a strong emphasis on educating pet owners and aspiring veterinarians, recognizing the pivotal role of education in shaping the future of veterinary medicine. Dr. Stone’s passion for continuous learning drives her practice, where she cares for a diverse range of animals including cats, dogs, small mammals and reptiles.

Known for her infectious enthusiasm and optimistic outlook, Dr. Stone thrives on new challenges and approaches each case as a unique opportunity to create a meaningful impact in the lives of animals and their human companions. Dr. Stone’s commitment to the community includes organizing community rabies vaccine clinics, working with local shelters, and inspiring children at the Fredericton Library. As a hobby, she also plays the euphonium in the Fredericton Concert & Marching Band. Through Dr. Stone’s classes and mentorship, ECLA students will learn about proper animal care and  interactions, while gaining insight into the fascinating world of veterinary medicine.

Darla MacNaughton

As an active Direct Client Care Registered Pharmacist licensed with the NB College of Pharmacists, Darla has been a trusted healthcare provider in the community for over 20 years. Darla is among a diverse group of pharmacists authorized to provide immunizations, injections, and assess and prescribe for minor ailments.

Her educational journey began with a BSc in Chemistry with a minor in Biology from Mount Allison University, fuelling her passion for healthcare she then pursued a BSc in Pharmacy from Dalhousie University. Following tenures as a pharmacist in Halifax and Fredericton, Darla established DJM Pharmacy Consulting Inc. in 2008. She later owned and operated People’s Pharmacy in Nackawic for five years before resuming pharmacist relief work at DJM.
Darla’s dedication to professional growth is evident with her pursuit of a Doctorate in Pharmacy Degree from Memorial University of Newfoundland. Her blend of academic prowess, hands-on experience, and entrepreneurial spirit makes her an invaluable addition to ECLA. Under Darla’s mentorship, ECLA students stand to gain immensely from her expertise, delving not only into the theoretical foundations of pharmacy but also acquiring practical insights.

Jill Nickerson

For the past 23 years, Jill has dedicated herself to Montessori education. She is the owner and lead guide of Bluebell Montessori School, a cornerstone of the community for three decades. Jill is passionate about fostering a peaceful and cooperative learning environment that allows children to uncover and nurture their true potential.

As a Field Consultant for the Centre of Guided Montessori Studies, Jill also takes pride in mentoring adult learners on their journey to becoming Montessori educators. She values lifelong learning, so adding to her BA from UNB and Early Childhood credentials from The Centre for Guided Montessori Studies, she is beginning her MEd in Montessori Leadership as well as being certified as an Orton Gillingham practitioner. In her spare time, she practices yoga, reads, and spends quality time with her two daughters and golden retriever.

Jill’s educational philosophy aligns seamlessly with ECLA’s mission to nurture each child’s unique talents and support their holistic development. By mentoring ECLA students in Mindfulness, Jill will guide them in focusing their awareness on the present moment, helping them calmly acknowledge and accept their thoughts and feelings.

Holly Goodwin

A native of Fredericton, NB, Holly embarked on her educational journey at the University of New Brunswick and Saint Thomas University, where she earned her BA and BEd in elementary education, respectively. She holds a Certificate of Teaching English as a Second Language (CTESL) from UNB and a diploma from the North American Montessori Center, as a Preschool/Kindergarten educator. Currently, she is pursuing her Masters of Education in Critical Studies.

Initially captivated by the enduring principles of the Montessori philosophy, Holly found resonance in its emphasis on individual strengths, alongside core values such as grace, peace, diversity, and environmental and interpersonal respect. These timeless principles continue to guide her practice. Holly’s passion for education blossomed early, fueled further by the inspiration drawn from her two children. Their presence motivates her to foster nurturing, loving, and engaging early education programs.

In 2020, Holly became the owner/operator of Riverside Montessori Learning Centre. Together with a dedicated team of educators, Holly creates an enriching environment where children can thrive and grow. It’s this passion that Holly brings to ECLA where she’ll share her love and knowledge of creative cooking and cooking methodologies.

Janice Williams

With twenty years of experience in formal and informal education and social impact sectors, Janice holds an honours bachelor’s degree from Western University, a bachelor’s degree in elementary and secondary science education from McGill University, and a master’s degree in professional education from Western University, focusing on leadership and policy. As a teacher-practitioner, Janice excels in learning experience design, competency-based instruction, and culturally sustaining pedagogy.

Beyond the classroom, Janice actively works to reshape and improve education at a systemic level, demonstrating a commitment to fostering innovative and impactful change. As the former Science Learning Specialist with the New Brunswick Government, Janice led curriculum renewal and spearheaded initiatives like the 2021 Climate Education Action Plan, showcasing her leadership in educational transformation. Janice is currently the founder and Principal Consultant of Pinnacle Educational Services, where she dedicates her expertise to transforming education systems nationally and globally. With her extensive education and knowledge of sustainable systems, Janice is uniquely positioned to provide impactful education consultancy services. We’re truly privileged to have Janice sharing her wealth of knowledge and experience with ECLA.

Sandra Melanson

A native of New Brunswick, Sandra holds a BA in French Literature and a BEd from Acadia University, as well as an MEd in Curriculum and Instruction from UNB. With three decades of experience, including twenty years in classrooms across Bathurst, Oromocto, and Fredericton, Sandra transitioned to become a Math Coach in 2016. Her role supports the provincial initiative to enhance numeracy in the Early Years, focusing on grades K-2. Sandra tailors numeracy support covering curriculum content, planning, teaching methods, and assessment. She is deeply committed to personalized teacher development, employing a co-planning and co-teaching approach geared to individual goals. Sandra stays on top of current research and pedagogical practices to optimize student achievement in numeracy, emphasizing student-centered, inquiry-based learning to cultivate deep understanding and number sense. She works closely with ECLA teachers, with the goal that math can be engaging, enjoyable, and relevant for every learner.

Andrew Mathis

Andrew Mathis is a regenerative design educator who seeks to empower people to envision and cocreate a hopeful flourishing future for all. Andrew teaches courses and workshops on permaculture, food forest design, and sustainability, and has worked with community groups, First Nations, and schools to design and implement projects that bring people together around growing food. Andrew lives with his wife Anna in an old farmhouse with their children Gibson and Juniper on the Nashwaak in the unceded territory of the Wolastoqiyik. On the weekends they can be found in the garden, tending the bees, or foraging for wild mushrooms. With Andrew’s guidance and expertise, ECLA students learn a deeper appreciation for food production, ecosystems, nature and sustainability practices. 

Henry Huang

Henry currently serves as a board director at CANSTEAM Foundation, a charitable non-profit organization committed to enhancing student interest and accessibility to practical and high-quality STEAM education in Canada. With a diverse educational background spanning healthcare, finance, accounting, and education, Henry has held roles such as Vice President at BD Medical and Global Committee Member at the World Congress of Vascular Access (WOCOVA). Since immigrating to Canada, Henry has been actively involved in children’s education. He earned his MBA degree from the University of New Brunswick (UNB) and a teaching diploma. Introducing math competitions, computing competitions, and the VEX Robotics program in Fredericton, he has played a key role in numerous students from New Brunswick achieving top rankings in both the province and Canada. Leading two teams to the World Robotic Championship, Henry’s extensive STEAM experience provides valuable international insights and perspectives to ECLA, showcasing his wealth of knowledge, experience, and leadership in the global market.

Justen Di Ruscio

Justen is a proficient Software Engineer and passionate educator, having taught over 40 technology and robotics workshops for diverse age groups. Since the age of 11, Justen has been immersed in electronics and computer building, specializing in robotics, sensors, and distributed systems. His enthusiasm for technology extends to contributing to major open-source projects, leading technology workshops, and launching community outreach initiatives, which have received national recognition.

This aptitude for technology led him to his degree in Software Engineering and diploma in Technology Management and Entrepreneurship, where he now leads technology at his startup company, SpatialOne Research. Justen and his team develop software to orchestrate and manage large engineering simulations, working to integrate the disparate tools involved in producing reliable engineering workflows. As an Educational Mentor, Justen aims to empower ECLA students to find their passions and develop their creativity through STEM, in the same way he did.
