Our Curriculum
Your Child is the Curriculum.
Learning is guided by your child’s interests, goals, and academic achievements.
Leadership
We understand the critical role leadership plays in personal development and society at large. By exposing students to real-world examples of leadership within our school environment, we enable them to grasp its essence and significance early on. Leadership instills values of responsibility, empathy, and adaptability, preparing our students to confidently navigate the complexities of the modern world. Whether it’s a student taking the lead in a classroom discussion or organizing a community-focused initiative, these experiences foster skills that extend beyond academics — skills that are vital for success in their academic, professional, and personal lives.
Our Global Competencies
We embrace a broader perspective in our curriculum that recognizes the interconnectedness of our world. In today’s global landscape, success encompasses understanding and managing both triumphs and setbacks. We are committed to equipping every student who walks through our doors with the ability to effectively communicate, collaborate, and flourish on a global stage within our rapidly evolving society. Math & Language Arts
Our mathematics and literacy curriculums are designed to ensure that your child achieves the curriculum outcomes typically expected for their grade in the New Brunswick Education and Early Childhood Development Anglophone public school system. This way, if your child leaves ECLA at any time, we are confident they will possess the academic skills necessary to transition back into the New Brunswick public education system, potentially even exceeding their grade level due to our flexible groupings and tailored approach to learning.
Science & Technology
We wholeheartedly embrace the pivotal role of science & technology in our curriculum, preparing students for an ever-changing world. Our curriculum places strong emphasis on teaching effective technology use, introducing concepts like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Augmented Reality (AR), and Virtual Reality (VR) in ways that are engaging and relevant to an elementary curriculum. We lead in scientific and technological progress with the goal of equipping students with an understanding of scientific faculties as well as the technical skills that are crucial in today’s world. We emphasize responsible and ethical technology use, merging hands-on skills with technology to foster a comprehensive understanding.
Global Connectivity
Our curriculum stresses interaction with peers and experts from diverse corners of the globe, broadening perspectives and fostering effective communication. Through virtual reading programs, comprehension projects, and access to a diverse range of literature, students engage in a globally connected learning experience. ECLA students will proficiently access educational materials online, promoting self-driven learning at any time and from anywhere. We teach students the skills to navigate online platforms, critically evaluate sources, and discern appropriate materials for their studies.
Fiscal Responsibility
We believe in fostering financial empowerment and responsibility in our students. By actively participating in projects that teach financial literacy, our students become savvy yet compassionate and socially conscious citizens. One of the ways we achieve this is through micro-lending projects integrated into our curriculum. These initiatives encourage our students to understand the principles of financial literacy and entrepreneurship in a practical, hands-on manner. We aim to equip students with essential financial skills while instilling a sense of empathy and social responsibility.
Creative Arts
Our Creative Arts programs are designed to ignite the creativity within each student. With guidance from our professional instructors, students explore various forms of artistic expression, from painting to dramatic interpretations, dance, and storytelling to actively engage children’s imagination. These activities are not limited to the classroom; through our community partnerships, our students experience various forms of art and culture firsthand. We also encourage students to showcase their talents through exhibitions and collaborative projects, fostering a deep appreciation for the arts.
Music
We believe in the power of music to inspire, engage, and unite. Through a unique collaboration with local musicians and instructors, we provide authentic musical instruction that nurtures a passion for music. Our students have the opportunity to learn and explore various musical instruments and genres under the guidance of experienced music instructors.
In addition to classroom instruction, we encourage students to showcase their musical talents through performances and events, allowing them to develop their leadership skills and share their love for music with the ECLA community.
Physical Education
Physical fitness and well-being are integral to our educational philosophy. ECLA offers a comprehensive PhysEd Program, and we have partnered with the Lady Beaverbrook Gym at UNB to provide our students with a full-sized gymnasium for their physical education classes. These classes occur twice a week and are facilitated by our dedicated teachers. To ensure seamless transportation, our Go-Go Bus service is available on designated days, ensuring that students have access to the best facilities and instruction.
In addition to the gym, we make the most of our natural surroundings by conducting outdoor physical education classes in our natural playground. This outdoor experience not only provides a refreshing change of scenery but also fosters a deep connection with the environment.
French Language Instruction
As Canada’s only bilingual province, we take great pride in our commitment to introducing the French language to our students. We offer this introduction to French through various subjects, such as music, arts, dance, entrepreneurship, and exploration, and dedicated French-only classes. We augment conventional teaching methods with current technological advancements utilizing innovative translation devices to grow their French comprehension at their own pace, anytime and anywhere.
Global Language Communication
In our ever-evolving multi-cultural society, both within New Brunswick and Canada as a whole, we recognize that our cultural landscape extends beyond English and French. At ECLA, we embrace a rich and diverse environment, and believe it is crucial to instill in students the knowledge of a wide array of global languages. Through innovative technology-driven translation tools, we empower students with the ability to communicate with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
Incorporating Cultures from around the World
We are committed to growing global leaders and supporting our students through various hands-on partnerships with local cultural organizations. Our students will be introduced to a variety of multicultural languages, sports, creative arts, and so much more. One example is our partnership with the Atlantic Language Culture International (ALCI) who will be offering a unique opportunity for our students to have a broader understanding of the Chinese community through various programs including Chinese art, cooking, tai chi, and interpretive dances.
We look forward to announcing future partnerships and project-based learning opportunities with an expanse of cultures and additional community organizations representing diverse cultures that span the world.
